Why Code Conversion?
a. MVS applications are very expensive and are not able to cope with rapid changing business requirements to create values for enterprise.
b. MVS developers are disappearing from IT world, and the enterprise cannot find expertises to maintain the legacy system.
During the era of Y2K, billions of dollars were invested to interrogate the two bytes year number from trillions of lines of legacy codes written in COBOL, PL1 and C. After Y2K heat, North American IT Association has estimated a cost of $US1.29 per line of codes during the conversion exercise.
DataGovernment is proud of presenting the Legacy Code Conversion Engine (LCCE) via integration of experience, knowledge, and scalable code parsing processes we learned and built during the Y2K time. LCCE is targeting to the business opportunity of converting around 3.2 trillions of legacy codes currently implemented in the whole world and around 2.5 billions lines of legacy codes newly added every year.

Code Conversion Practice
Automated process
analyses the JCL, PROCS, Sort Control Cards, Link Edit Control Cards and the program source files.
creates a Database that represents the Metadata for the system data flow.
for each file in the system a knowledge of the record formats on the file and the constraints under which they are processed.
Program source code is examined
using a propriety Data Flow Algorithm.
able to generate derivation logic 100% for each target field with the constraints extracted from the program source.
Complex derivation logic can be generated in DataStage BASIC or DataStage C/C++ formats.
Metadata
captured from the legacy system.
propagated into a DataStage format .DSX or MySQL database.
consistent, free of manually created errors.
conforms to the customers DataStage standards and best practices.
Auditable
generated routines refer back to the source code from which they were derived on source code line number basis.
Code Conversion Process
The customer chooses a set of MVS jobs to convert.
The set of MVS Jobs and their related PROCS are supplied by customer.
In an iterative process, We provide scripts to the customer that drills down on the rest of the components needed to perform the migration. This will include Sort Control Cards, Link Edit Control Cards and all program source files.
Normally about 5 iterations are required.
We generate a complete inventory of the components and are able to give a firm price and duration for the migration process.
We complete the migration, prioritizing the JOBS according to the customers needs.
Each MVS JOB is converted to a DataStage JOBSEQ flow with each inner DataStage JOB representing an MVS JOB Step.
The customer tests each JOBSEQ as they are delivered on their platform.
The conversion is completed and the system is handed over along with operations documentation according to the customers standards.
We can handle PLI, COBOL, EasyTrieve, Carlton Passport and ETI programming languages. Others can be added as business needs justify.
Manual conversion services are available for tuning and augmenting the automated result.
